Standards of Conduct and Discipline
Alice Christian School is just that, a Christian school. We expect and work toward aspects of our school to be in line with biblical principles. Anything outside that attitude is hypocrisy. A well-used phrase that sums up our standard is “What would Jesus do?” Being that our society is so out of line with God and His Word, we have listed some conduct and discipline standards.
CONDUCT
· Language – Anything that doesn’t biblically reprimand or encourage a person, or illuminate the character of the Lord, is not acceptable. What you would not consider saying at the dinner table or in front of the church congregation, is not acceptable here.
· Attitude – Your attitude determines your actions. Mistreating others, griping, or sulking is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
· Disobedience – Rebellion will not be tolerated. The parent’s standards of conduct, reaches right through the principal’s office into the student’s office.
DISCIPLINE
Alice Christian School is dedicated to the training of the children in a program of study, activity, and living that is Christ-centered. We believe that “all things should be done decently and in order” (I Cor 14:40), and that our students should be taught to accept a given responsibility to “walk honorably before men". Here at ACS, discipline is maintained which is firm, consistent, fair, and tempered with love. Our faculty maintains standards of behavior in the classroom through kindness, love, and a genuine regard for the students.
However, when disciplinary action becomes needed it is firmly carried out and tempered by good judgment and understanding. We reserve the right to carry out corporal correction. We also reserve the right to make unannounced searches of student’s offices, personal property and carry bags.
Demerits
When verbal reprimands are not bringing about the required change in behavior, recorded demerits will be issued. At the discretion of a staff member, from one to six demerits will be issued and recorded in the student’s office. EVERONE STARTS WITH A CLEAN SLATE EVERYDAY! The following table shows the ‘rewards’ for demerits:
· 3 demerits – 15 minutes detention after school
· 4 demerits – 20 minutes detention
· 5 demerits – 30 minutes
· 6 demerits – corporal correction (paddling)
Parents will be notified with a DETENTION SLIP explaining the reasons for and the amount of detention. Detention time will be served the following day.
Corporal Correction
Corporal correction is administered under the following guidelines:
· The offense is first discussed privately to the point of understanding while relating the
seriousness of the offense.
· Attempts will be made to locate parent to come and administer the paddling..
· The student shall never disciplined in anger. Correction is not something you do to a child,
but what you do for a child.
· A fair amount of paddling (not to exceed 3 swats) with a flat paddle will be administered.
· There will be prayer with the child assuring them of their love.
· A CORPORAL CORRECTION slip will accompany the child home to be signed and returned.
· Parents of teenage students who earn a paddling have the option of taking a 3-day suspension
instead. (No PACE work or school activities will be available during duration of suspension.)
Suspension
There are times when all our attempts to bring a child in line with biblical self-control are not being complied with. This is usually because the parent’s authority is ignored by the child. In cases like this, we must remove the individual from the presence of the other children. The delinquent student may be placed on temporary suspension or permanently dismissed from the school.
Remember… Discipline pays eternal dividends!
