Self-paced, individualized learning…
· Assumes that no 2 children are same mentally, emotionally, socially, or spiritually. Each child’s academic achievement is guided individually. Fast paced children can go fast and slower paced children can go at the pace that best suits them.
· Nothing stands in the way of the child learning and moving through the curriculum at his pace. The supervisor is not the teacher, but a facilitator of learning. The supervisor’s job mainly consists of motivating and maintaining an atmosphere and the procedures for the student to progress. The student is never stopped if the teacher is out or other students need tutoring. All he has to have is the ability to read and the desire to learn what he is reading.
· Tutoring is available any time for any length of time.
· Common phrases around the learning center:
“I’m finished with my goals. Can I have free time?”
“Can I do extra?”
· A child can easily ask for help without other students knowing.
· Learning is the constant. Time is the variable.
